Benefits
of Being District Governor
During your year as Governor of District
20-Y2, you will put the "We Serve" motto in practice in
many new ways. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are
making a difference on many levels. In addition, there are a number of
other benefits for you and your spouse:
- You go to two International
Conventions. All expenses for you and your spouse are paid for the
first one, and all of your expenses are paid for the second.
- You go to four Council Meetings with
expenses paid.
- Your expenses are paid for state
convention, where you and your spouse will be on stage.
- You will have the opportunity to visit
three guide-dog schools, with expenses paid for you and your spouse.
You will get a chance to see how the dogs are trained, you can walk
with a guide dog yourself, and you will see a graduation ceremony
for the dogs and their new owners.
- You also can visit Vacation Camp for
the Blind and see the many adaptations for blind campers, and,
usually during a Council Meeting, you will visit Camp Badger, where
you will interact with the children.
- There will be many great social
activities for you and your spouse, including hospitality rooms and
dinners at Council Meetings, dog-school visits, club anniversaries,
etc. At Council Meetings, special activities for spouses will be
available.
- All of these experiences will give you
and your spouse time to bond with the other 11 governors, your
Council Chair, and their partners in service, and you will build
lifelong friendships.
- Working with other governors and with
current and past International Directors, you will have the
opportunity to address policy issues for MD20.
- You will have a chance to put your
ideas into practice for improving 20-Y2 membership, service, etc.
You will work with other 20-Y2 Lions, including those in your
cabinet and the PDGs, to strengthen Lionism. This will help you
build strong friendships around the district.
- You will be the honored guest at club
meetings, where you will learn what clubs are doing and have the
chance to help them solve problems and increase their service to
their communities.
- Through all of these experiences, you
will learn much more about Lionism at the club, district, multiple
and international level.
- You will build leadership skills that
will benefit you for the rest of your life in your career and in
other activities.
- You will earn the respect and
appreciation of your fellow Lions.
- As a PDG, you will have many
continuing opportunities to influence Lions policies and activities,
both at the local and the state level.
Most of all, this will be the best year
of your life. Enjoy it.
